A Florida State Trooper was hit by a suspected drunk driver early Sunday morning.
The trooper was responding to a crash on Okeechobee Road near the Palmetto Expressway at the time. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. The trooper was responsive, officials say.
The driver who hit the trooper underwent a DUI test at the scene of the crash. He was then taken into custody.
The Palmetto Expressway southbound exit ramp to Okeechobee Road was shut down for several hours as authorities investigated the scene.
The trooper suffered serious injuries, according to FHP. He is expected to recover.
