North Miami Beach paratrooper found dead in Fort Bragg barracks

The US Army is investigating after a paratrooper from Florida was found dead on Saturday in his barracks at Fort Bragg.

Spc. Carlton Butler, a 22-year-old infantryman, was assigned to Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

Butler grew up in North Miami Beach and joined the Army in June 2014, the Army said.

"Carlton was an energetic and motivated Paratrooper," Lt. Col. Graham R. White, Butler's commanding officer, said in a press release.  "Our thoughts now turn to his family and fellow paratroopers."

The Fayetteville Observer reported that Butler was the second soldier to die at Fort Bragg in less than a week.

The newspaper reported that Pfc. Nicholas Martinez was also found dead in his barracks room on Thursday.
