Could this FC Barcelona fan be on edge over Lionel Messi's contract? Authorities spotted him walking on a runway at North Perry Airport, and his erratic behavior prompted investigators to order a psychiatric evaluation.
The 26-year-old man who was wearing an FC Barcelona number 10 soccer jersey prompted security concerns at the Broward County Aviation Department airport in Pembroke Pines Friday afternoon.
According to Sgt. Adam Feiner investigators identified the culprit as Carlos Steven Caicedo-Orejuela. When he saw Pembroke Pines Police Department officers approaching, he took off running. During the arrest, he shouted he was HIV positive and spit at a police officer.
After the arrest, North Perry Airport resumed operations about 4:45 p.m. Caicedo-Orejuela faces battery on a law enforcement officer and trespassing charges pending the results of a psychiatric evaluation.
The FBI, the Broward County Aviation Department and the Federal Aviation Administration were notified and there was an ongoing investigation.
Feiner said Caicedo-Orejuela lives about 15 minutes away from the airport down Hollywood Boulevard near the Hollywood Branch Library.
Police officers didn't say if Caicedo-Orejuela was a fan of FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi, but his fans have been on edge since the Argentine star has yet to renew his contract with the team, which will be playing championship games against Leganes Saturday and Juventus Wednesday.
