Shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured in Lauderhill

Lauderhill Police Department officers were investigating a fatal shooting Thursday night near Martin Luther King Elementary School.

About 7:45 p.m., the officers responded to a home at 3146 NW 2nd St., a few blocks away from West Broward Boulevard. The area remained closed to residents about 11:15 p.m.

According to Lt. Michael Santiago, a spokesman for the Lauderhill Police Department, the officers found a man dead and another wounded. Fire Rescue personnel took the wounded man to Broward Health.

Residents of the area said it's likely that the two men, who were shot inside of a car, knew the shooter. Lauderhill police officers said they had detained a "person of interest" who was cooperating and were in possession of a weapon.

Authorities were asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
