Ship collides with BSO patrol boat off Port Everglades

Two Broward Sheriff's Office deputies were injured Saturday afternoon when a ship from the Holland America Line and a BSO Harbor Patrol boat collided at Port Everglades.

Ellen Kennedy, a spokeswoman for Port Everglades, said the ship involved was the MS Oosterdam, which remained at Terminal 29 at 2026 Eller Dr.

Deputies said the Port Everglades Harbor Patrol boat with the two deputies had a mechanical failure that caused it to crash into the Holland America Oosterdam around 4:30 p.m.

Both deputies were taken to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Damage to the ship appears to be superficial, but the ship's departure has been delayed as it awaits the completion of the Coast Guard's inspection, deputies said.

The incident remained under investigation Saturday evening.
