Two Visions Maker Media Films Screening at LA Skins Festival, Nov. 18,19

HOLLYWOOD – The LA SKINS FEST, a Native American Film Festival, will feature two Vision Maker Media films at its 11th annual film festival Nov. 14-19, in Hollywood, California. The Mayors of Shiprock and On a Knife Edge will be featured on Nov. 18 and 19, respectively.

The LA SKINS FEST annually showcases works by independent Native American filmmakers that provide insight into the beauty, complexity and diversity of Native American people. The festival offers filmmakers an opportunity to show their work so audiences of all ages and interests can enrich their experience and understanding of Native American cultures.
Every year, the LA SKINS FEST premieres several Native American movies that feature Q&As with filmmakers, panel discussions with industry professionals, and after-parties with Native American musicians. Their annual award ceremony honors the achievements in Native American filmmaking and provides monetary prizes as well as distribution to new platforms. The festival is located at the TCL Chinese Theatre #6, 6925 Hollywood Blvd.
Vision Maker Media featured films:
THE MAYORS OF SHIPROCK – Nov. 18 – Noon – 2 p.m.
Native Women Directors Film Program – Nominated for Achievement in Documentary
This film follows a group of young Navajo leaders in Shiprock, New Mexico, who meet weekly to decide how they will help their community. For more than seven years, the Northern Diné Youth Committee has worked to give youth opportunities to directly make changes within their community.

ON A KNIFE EDGE – Nov. 19 – 9-11 a.m. – Native America Activism Film Program

This film provides a privileged view into the interior world of George Dull Knife as he becomes politically active with the American Indian Movement, confronts the challenges of growing up on the Pine Ridge Reservation, and wrestles with accepting leadership of his storied family from his aging father. Set against a background of rising tension and protest, a Lakota teenager learns first-hand what it means to lead a new generation and enter adulthood in a world where the odds are stacked against him.
