Boy, 4, struck by car in Deerfield Beach, deputies say

A 4-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle just before 5 p.m. Sunday in Deerfield Beach, the Broward Sheriff's Office said. 

Deputies said the child was hit at 347 Northwest Fourth Place. 

Neighbors told Local 10 News the driver of the vehicle did not immediately stop and continued driving slowly until family members of the child chased her down and pulled her out of the sports utility vehicle she was in.

Neighbors described the scene as chaotic, adding that a fight broke out between about five men and women as the boy laid unconscious on the ground.

Deputies said the boy suffered traumatic injuries and was taken by air to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. 

No other details were immediately released.
