Police chase leads to shooting in Hallandale Beach, witnesses say

A police chase ended in a shooting Friday morning in Hallandale Beach, witnesses said.

Sky 10 was above North Federal Highway about 9:45 a.m. as police blocked off the road from Hallandale Beach Boulevard to Pembroke Park.

Numerous Hollywood police officers were at the scene, and witnesses told Local 10 News reporter Jeff Weinsier that it appeared that officers were chasing a suspect, who led them into Hallandale Beach.

A source told Weinsier that the suspect was driving erratically and was heading north in the southbound lanes of North Federal Highway.

The source said the suspect nearly struck a pedestrian and struck two police cars.

One woman said she was sitting at a bus stop when she heard about 10 gunshots and ran for cover.

Weinsier said a body appeared to be inside a vehicle that was blocked off by police tape.

Authorities have not confirmed details about the incident, but the president of the Police Benevolent Association said all officers are OK.
