WASHINGTON – The Trump administration is ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, commonly known as DACA, an Obama-era program that allows children born to undocumented parents to remain in the United States.
Today’s announcment in essence punts the program, also known as the Dreamer program, to the dysfunctional Republican Congress to come up with a solution before March 5, 2017.
Today’s action has the potential to negativesly impact the lives of 800,000, many of whom have been granted work permits in the United States because of DACA. The Department of Homeland Security says it will no longer accept new applications for dreamers.
The announcement came from Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Justice Department.
Protectors reacted quickly outside of the White House, Trump Towers in New York and other cities across America.
