Miami-Dade police-involved shooting in Miami leaves man dead

Miami-Dade police officers were involved in a fatal shooting Wednesday night near Miami's Liberty Square.

The officers were arresting two men during a traffic stop at Northwest 15th Avenue and 68th Terrace when one of them ran away.

According to Miami-Dade police, the officers from the Crime Supression Team were at 1534 Ave NW 66 St., in Liberty City, where they performed a traffic stop on a red Nissan sedan with two men inside. After checking their identification it was revealed both men had open warrants for their arrests, according to police. One man ran off from police, while the other was taken into custody immediately, according to officers. After the second man was found, a confrontation ensued, leading to shots fired, according to Miami-Dade police.

Police said the man died at the hospital.  A relative identified the man killed as Anthony Ford, 26, but police officers did not confirm his identity.

No officers were injured in the shooting and the officer who fired the shots is a 17-year veteran of the force, according to officers.

City of Miami police officers were investigating another Wednesday night shooting that left two men wounded at 1210 NW 51 Terrace, according to Miami Officer Kenia Fallat.

Miami Fire Rescue took those men to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where they remained in critical condition Thursday morning.
