As we've seen, many families throughout the Houston area are dealing with the woes of severe flooding. The Clarke family from Dickinson has crucial medical concerns and fled their home, only to be needing to leave the Katy hotel they sought refuge at.
Shauna Clarke said they are “trying to figure out where to go next."
The Clarke family made it to the Katy Freeway Inn. Shauna, who has three children, said she was unable to extend their reservation.
"I'm trying to stay calm,” Shauna Clarke said. “I understand that there are other people going through a lot too, I'm not going to dismiss that at all."
She too is under pressure; her 8-year-old son, Dawson, has cancer and undergoes chemotherapy.
Dawson Clarke said he was worried but focused on what he wants to do once he completes treatment.
“(I’m) kind of scared,” he said. “I just want to be over with this because I really want to play football, but I can't because I have my port inside of my chest."
The family said they have enough at-home cancer medication to make it until Dawson is due at the hospital in two weeks. Their home in Dickinson, however, remains under mandatory evacuation and they're not sure what they'll have to go home to when the floodwaters recede.
Since they are not able to remain at the hotel, the Clarke family will be staying with family friends until they can return to their home.
