Tropical Storm Gert formed Sunday afternoon in the Atlantic Ocean but is not expected to impact South Florida.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Gert was located 505 miles west-southwest of Bermuda. It was moving north-northwest at 10 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
The storm is not expected to threaten land.
"So it misses any U.S. landfall," Local 10 News meteorologist Luke Dorris said. "It's going to miss Bermuda. It goes out into the open waters of the north Atlantic."
