Man fatally struck by hit-and-run driver while crossing Oakland Park Boulevard

A man was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver while trying to cross Oakland Park Boulevard early Sunday morning in Lauderdale Lakes.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said the vehicle was traveling west in the 3400 block of Oakland Park Boulevard when the pedestrian was struck. Concepcion said the driver fled the scene.

Detectives believe the vehicle that struck the man was a 2002 to 2007 Jeep Liberty.

Investigators said the vehicle should have damage to the front driver's side, including the bumper and headlight. The driver's side fender cover was recovered at the scene and should be missing from the vehicle.

The man's identity hasn't been released pending notification of next of kin.
