A man was arrested Tuesday after a stolen van he was driving leaked fuel at a Miami gas station, authorities said.
Miami police officers arrested Osvaldo Pelaez, 34, at the Shell gas station at 2020 NW 17 Avenue.
Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said the driver pulled into the gas station to pump gas and employees quickly noticed that gas was spilling from the side of the van onto the floor.
Workers called Miami Fire Rescue and crews responded to the scene to clean up the fuel spill.
Authorities said the driver was acting suspicious when crews were speaking to him and they asked him to open the van, where they found a large container filled with gas.
Miami Fire Rescue notified police, who are investigating the incident.
"This vehicle is basically a rolling bomb if this (van) were to get into an accident," Carroll said. "And then, also, the driver could have become overcome by the fumes had he been driving and went unconscious, causing him to crash."
The driver was taken into custody for illegally transporting fuel, authorities said.
Police said the van was reported stolen last year.
