The committee will hear testimony from several witnesses, including Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) Director Tony Dearman. Udall will question Dearman on working together with the BIE and local communities to ensure Native student support programs, like Johnson-O’Malley, reach all eligible students. Udall will also press Dearman on how the administration’s proposed workforce reduction, ongoing vacancies, and personnel shuffles are affecting BIE’s mission. 
 
During the legislative hearing, the committee will hear testimony on the following bills:

·         S. 943, the Johnson-O’Malley Supplemental Indian Education Program Modernization Act;

·         S. 1223, the Klamath Tribe Judgment Fund Repeal Act; and

·         S. 1285, the Oregon Tribal Economic Development Act.
