2 Miami-Dade police officers injured after wrong-way crash

Two Miami-Dade police officers were injured in a crash Sunday morning in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Investigators believe alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the crash.

Jovary Hill, 30,  reportedly was driving a Volkwagen Jetta in the wrong direction at about 4:45 a.m. near Southwest 163rd Street and Southwest 157th Avenue when he crashed head-on into a police cruiser, Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Robin Pinkard said.

Two officers, ages 33 and 31, were in the cruiser at the time.

Miami Fire Rescue extricated one of the officers, who was trapped in the squad car, Pinkard said.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.

One of the officers was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital with serious dislocations to his lower extremities and some fractures, Pinkard said.

The other officer and Hill were taken to Jackson South with possible broken bones.

"It's a busy holiday. It's Memorial Day weekend," Pinkard said. "We always advise the community to be safe while they are out there."
