Education secretary to deliver keynote address at historically black institution

Education secretary Betsy DeVos will deliver a keynote speech at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach next week.

Devos made the announcement Monday.

This is the latest move for the Trump administration to reach out to historically black colleges and universities.

Many leaders inside the school have welcomed the idea of Devos coming in with the hopes of increased financial support, while others believe another speaker should be picked.

The university released a statement Monday saying "Much like Dr. Bethune, Founder of Bethune-Cookman Univeristy, Secretary Devos deems the importance of opportunity and hope for students to receive an exceptional education experience. Her mission to empower parents and students resonates with the history and legacy of Dr. Bethune."

The release goes on to show the importance of funding for the educational department, and praised Devos for her charitable contributions.
