WHITE EARTH, MINNESOTA – The White Earth Tribal Council, by a vote of 3 for and 0 against, accepted the resignation of Chairwoman Erma J. Vizenor effective today, Jan. 20. Vizenor was censured by the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe (MCT) Tribal Executive Committee (TEC) on Dec. 22, 2015, when they determined that Vizenor committed an act constituting a cause for censureship under Article X, Section 2.

Vizenor was appointed Secretary-Treasurer in 1996 and then elected to the position in 1997 and served until 2002. She was elected Chairwoman in 2004. The White Earth Tribal Council special hearing scheduled for Jan. 22 at Shooting Star Casino Event Center has been cancelled due to Vizenor’s resignation.
