Update: Swift water event

I was just advised by APD that the person found deceased in the arroyo was not the individual that was threatening to drive into the arroyo at Morningside and Prospect. That person was arrested.

Melissa Romero Public Affairs Officer Albuquerque Fire Department

It was previously reported:

At approximately 4 o’clock this afternoon APD responded to the area of Morningside and Prospect to a man who was threatening to drive his vehicle into the Arroyo. The Albuquerque Fire Department responded at the request of APD. Several witnesses including members of the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Department saw a victim floating face down in the North diversion channel. Through witness sightings it was determined this was no longer a rescue but a recovery effort. It has not been confirmed if the victim was the individual threatening to drive into the Arroyo.

The recovery is taking place in the area of Roy and Alameda where the North diversion channel enters the Rio Grande River.

Due to the location being in Bernalillo County jurisdiction, Bernalillo County Fire Department has taken over command of the recovery effort.

No additional information is available at this time. Lt. Albert Herren
