The Human Rights Campaign has turned the Internet red with a new campaign encouraging people to turn their profile images red to show their support for marriage equality. BBSNews is proud to be based inside of a city, the City of Santa Fe, New Mexico, that supports marriage equality so much that the mayor of our fair and diverse city has introduced a resolution to encourage County Clerks throughout the state of New Mexico to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples throughout the state because the state’s marriage statute is gender neutral.

The Human Rights Campaign points out that a majority of Americans support marriage equality according to Gallup, and out of nine million LGBT people across the United States 900,000 are same-sex couples.

Twenty-two percent of those couples are raising children, but it is legal for twenty-nine state’s businesses to fire LGBT people solely based on their sexual orientation and in thirty-four states for their gender-identity.

Currently same-sex couples can marry in nine states: Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Washington, Vermont, and in Washington D. C. And hopefully soon in New Mexico as a result of the efforts of Mayor David Coss and City Council person Patty Bushee of Santa Fe here in New Mexico.

Be sure and show your support by wearing red, and changing your profile photo to show support and help this latest campaign to continue to trend on Twitter hash tag #MarriageEquality.
