BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – The first relief supplies from the United States are ready for departure here Oct. 9 aboard a C-17 Globemaster III less than 48 hours after the devastating earthquake that left thousands dead and thousands more injured. The cargo comprised 12 pallets of food, water, medicine and blankets and weighed almost 90,000 pounds. The C-17 and its crew are from the 7th Airlift Squadron at McChord Air Force Base, Wash.
