Obama Wins Vermont and Clinton Takes Rhode Island in Tuesday Primaries

BBSNews 2008-03-05 -- Early on Tuesday night Exit polling and projections called Vermont for Senator Barack Obama and Rhode Island for Senator Clinton. In a non-surprise, former Vietnam P.O.W. Senator John McCain is likely going to be the Republican nominee for the 2008 election for president and Mike Huckabee has abandoned his long-shot candidacy and is throwing his support behind McCain.

US television networks called the state of Ohio a win for Hillary Clinton before midnight Eastern time. In Texas, where 126 delegates were in play for the primary and 67 delegates are tied to caucuses that began after the close of the polls for the primary, the race was extremely close with no projected winner into the morning hours. Clinton was eventually projected as the winner by CNN shortly before 1:00 am Wednesday morning.

Vermont towns vote to indict President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney

Two towns in southern Vermont voted in favor of indictments of the President of the United States George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney in a largely symbolic vote on Tuesday.

The votes, in Brattleboro and Marlboro, call for both men to be indicted for violations of the US Constitution.

In Marlboro the vote for indictments came during a motion at the town meeting where the non-binding measure was passed on a vote of 43 in favor, 25 against with three abstainers.

In Brattleboro, where the identical measure was on the ballot, the ballot question read:

"Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictments for consideration by other authorities and shall it be the law of the town of Marlboro that law enforcement agencies hired by the Town of Marlboro, pursuant to the above-mentioned indictments, arrest and detain George Bush and Richard Cheney in Marlboro if they are not duly impeached, and prosecute or extradite them to other authorities that may reasonably contend to prosecute them?"

Voters said yes by 2,012 to 1,795.
