Winograd Reporting Headlines Dead Lebanese Civilians
BBSNews 2008-01-31 -- In the aftermath of the Winograd Report that details how Israel lost a questionable war, there has been a renewed focus on the number of Lebanese civilian deaths that occurred during the 34 day-old conflict, from detailed to sparse, the world's media weighed in with numbers ranging from "more than 1000" to "1,400".

The Associated Press offered the most detailed look at a range of casualty numbers, saying those killed numbered "between 1,035 and 1,191 Lebanese civilians and combatants, in addition to 119 Israeli soldiers and 40 civilians." Perhaps the most spare description of the casualty figures came from The New York Times who reported "In the fighting, more than 1,000 Lebanese died, and more than 160 Israelis."
The Economist offered the highest number reporting, "1,400 are reckoned to have died."
