Ehud Olmert to free known terrorists from Fatah to suppress Hamas, that Israel also regards as terrorists
BBSNews Editorial 2007-07-15 -- In a strange move, Ehud Olmert has made an agreement to free Fatah terrorists from pursuit and threat of imprisonment so they can join Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) in seeking to rout Hamas who was elected to Palestinian government in 2006 in a free and fair election. Such a democracy was not envisioned by the US or the Israelis' and Hamas has been castigated ever since by the West, particularly the US. The Bush administration refuses to deal with "terrorists" -- unless of course they're the terrorists du jour that they like.
In a very surreal twist, by most reports because of the inability of Israel or the United States to let a democratic election of a group they feel are terrorists to stand, Olmert has released from Israel's list of most wanted some confirmed, bonified terrorists.
According to the LA Times in an article by one of their staff writers, Richard Boudreaux, a terrorist named Zakariya Zubeidi is one of the men who is going to be partaking in Olmert's foolhardy plan. The same kind of plan that after the Oslo Accords in 1993 14 years ago, resulted in Fatah members being given blanket amnesty to form the Palestinian Authority with Yasser Arafat. Those given amnesty largely went back to attacking Israel.
Confirmed wanted terrorists are to be given "amnesty" resulting in what BBSNews termed shortly after September 11th, 2001 could become a "War on Some Thugs" modeled on the also failed and also decades long "War on Some Drugs" -- We said so more than six years ago:
"It does not inspire confidence in me or for my family that our leaders are planning to win the war on terrorism like they are losing the failed war on some drugs. I do not wish for this conflict to be termed as the 'war on some thugs' (reformers have long called the failed US drug policy 'the war on some drugs') with most of the terrorism raging on while we ignore root causes and eight of ten of the terrorists get through."
And yet this is exactly the deal that the Israelis', no doubt cheered on by the United States, are giving real, identified terrorists just to supposedly fight another "terrorist" faction that these two governments currently do not like.
The LA Times article makes clear about Zubeidi:
"Like other wanted militants, Zubeidi had spent much of his time in hiding from Israeli forces who frequently raid the West Bank. Since 2002, Israeli officials said, Zubeidi had carried out shooting attacks against Israeli soldiers there and once sent a suicide bomber to Jerusalem; the bomber's explosive-laden bag exploded at an Israeli checkpoint before leaving the West Bank."
This guy sent a suicide bomber towards Jerusalem. And Olmert has let this kind of person have "amnesty". If only American "conservatives" could see this for what it is and compare it to what they call "amnesty" for mostly Hispanics who simply want to work in the US at jobs Americans won't do for the wages offered...
The Times article ended on this note: "In Bethlehem, Amjad Khalawi, a 35-year-old Al Aqsa gunman, ended six years in hiding today, got a haircut and said he would join the Preventive Security force." It said that this 179 "militants" now free from prosecution and being hunted down by Israeli security forces, the IDF, was considered about "three-quarters" of those who have blood on their hands and who are considered wanted terrorists.
What on Earth has happened to sanity, and reason, and justice?
It's one thing to be a freedom fighter and it is quite another to be someone who plans and sends a suicide bomber to kill a bunch of innocent people. To use a Christian favorite phrase, this is a deal with the devil. It makes no sense to keep going back and forth in these useless, and very costly in terms of innocent lives, exercises in futility.
If it is a confirmed fact that Zubeidi was responsible for an attempted suicide bombing where at least the bomber lost his or her life at an Israeli checkpoint with many more lives at at stake, no amount of "amnesty" can take that away.
This is not the same as "amnesty" for someone who comes to America to be a pea picker.
This is giving in to some murderers to fight other murderers with no visible distinction and no justice.
We're just a small news service in North Carolina in the United States, but we can see it, why can't world leaders see it and why doesn't the so-called mass media report it?
