Hutchinson's Senate Re-election Bid is a Smooth Ride
Zogby via BBSNews 2006-03-04 -- Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison holds a two-to-one lead over Democrat Barbara Ann Radnofsky and appears poised to coast to re-election later this year, a new Wall Street Journal/Zogby Interactive survey shows.

In an era when widespread political popularity is relatively rare, Hutchinson enjoys a positive overall approval rating from 65% of likely voters in Texas, and 60% in her home state approve of the job she is doing in Washington.
A third term for her appears likely.
By contrast, the four-way circus that is the race for Texas governor just gets more and more interesting. Democratic nominee Chris Bell has the undesirable job of trying to salvage his party's dignity and prevent a third- or fourth-place finish, as he is stuck in a very crowded field trailing incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Perry.
Compared to Hutchinson, things do not look as good for Governor Perry , whose job approval rating is just 42%. Yet, in his re-election bid, it appears he was dealt a good hand with lots of players at the table. He only wins 36% support in this latest poll, but three challengers diffuse the opposition voice. Former Congressman Bell takes 21%, State Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn takes 19%, and Country Music Star Kinky Friedman takes 17%.
Meanwhile, Texas still appears to be a happy place for Republicans, even though resident President George W. Bush can only manage a 49% job approval rating there. Republicans hold a strong 12-point advantage (46% to 34%) over Democrats in the generic congressional ballot contest, and they hold an even bigger edge when it comes to better representing the values held by voters.
