Cellphone video shows deputy fatally shooting man in Lauderdale Lakes

Local 10 News has obtained exclusive cellphone video showing the moment that a man was shot and killed by a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy in Lauderdale Lakes.

BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said Jean Pedro Pierre was shot Wednesday after deputies were called to a disturbance at the Sunset Hills Condominium.

Deputy Sean Youngward was the first to arrive. Coleman-Wright said Youngward was confronted by Pierre, who attacked him.

Witnesses said Pierre struck, punched and kicked the deputy.

The cellphone video seems to corroborate the account.

When Deputy Steven Briggs arrived, Youngward was on his back with Pierre dragging him by the leg.

"Let him go, bra," the man recording the cellphone video can be heard telling Pierre. "They gonna shoot you, man. They gonna shoot you."

The man and another witness can be heard in the video telling Briggs, who had his gun drawn, to "tase him."

"He don't have a gun," the other man said. "Tase him."

The video shows Pedro let go of Youngward and run off camera. Then three gunshots can be heard.

"Oh, my God," the man on the video said. "God dog it."

Coleman-Wright said Pierre charged at Briggs.

Both Pierre and Briggs were off camera at the time that the shots were fired.

Pierre was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died.

Both deputies were placed on administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.
