Virginia governor’s race: Too early to call

Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam is running against Republican lobbyist and former George W. Bush administration official Ed Gillespie to be the next governor of Virginia.

As the polls closed at 7 p.m. ET, the vote was too close to call.

The next major matchup will be in New Jersey, in the race to replace Chris Christie as governor. Polls there close at 8 p.m. ET.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio also is running for re-election Tuesday.
