The Florida Highway Patrol troopers re-opened the Florida Turnpike's northbound lanes at Sample Road after a fatal crash caused a closure Saturday morning.
FHP Sgt. John Baker said the driver of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck collided with a black Ford Mustang about 6:30 a.m., while attempting to enter the Turnpike.
"As he did so, he lost control, and as he lost control he crossed three lanes of traffic," Baker said.
The Ford Mustang was approaching northbound when it struck the pickup truck's passenger side door "causing extensive intrusion into the actual truck," Baker said.
Firefighters found the driver of the truck was dead. A woman who was in the Mustang was injured.
Broward Sheriff's Office deputies were assisting FHP. Baker said investigators determined wet roadways were a contributing case.
