Woman shot in back of head while trying to sell used iPhone in North Lauderdale

A woman was shot in the back of the head Sunday while trying to sell a used iPhone to a man in North Lauderdale, authorities said.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said the victim and her fiance used an app to find a potential buyer for the used phone.

Authorities said the couple made arrangements to meet up with the stranger on Sunday near 1348 Avon Lane in North Lauderdale.

Deputies said the man told them that he needed to go to an ATM, so the couple drove him to a Chevron gas station at 7100 W. McNab Road.

Surveillance video inside the store shows the man, who was wearing a blue Puma track suit, pretending to use the ATM.

Authorities said the couple realized that the man was acting strange when they drove back to the original meet-up spot, and the man pulled out a gun and demanded both of their phones.

Deputies said the couple quickly drove off, but the thief fired a shot at the woman, hitting her in the right side of the back of her head.

The woman's fiance took her to University Hospital and Medical Center in Tamarac, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about the armed robbery and shooting is asked to call Detective Theophilus Woulard at 954-321-4553 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
