Palm Beach County deputy resigns after being caught on camera breaking into home

Deputy Jason Cooke resigned from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday after he was allegedly caught on surveillance video last month breaking into an 85-year-old man's home in Boynton Beach after the man was taken to a hospital and died.

Cooke was arrested Thursday on charges of burglary and grand theft with a firearm and was placed on house arrest after posting a $28,000 bond.

The victim's family said the deputy stole items from the home Sept. 12 when the elderly victim, Moe Rosoff, was taken to the hospital due to a fall during a power outage caused by Hurricane Irma.

Rosoff's son had asked deputes to conduct a welfare check on his father when he was found on the ground of the master bedroom.

He was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he died later that day.
