LEECH LAKE INDIAN RESERVATION – Dennis Banks, co-founder of the American Indian Movement, successfully underwent open heart surgery at an undisclosed medical facility on Wednesday. After falling ill last month, the 80-year-old, was advised recently he needed to have open heart surgery.
His family issued this statement late Wednesday on his condition:
“Dad is out of surgery! He did great! Thank you all for your prayers. They are working!
The next 24 hours are crucial to him having a strong recovery, so please keep the prayers coming.”
