Fort Lauderdale police seek man who tackled, raped woman

Fort Lauderdale police released a sketch Monday of a man they said tackled and raped a woman last week.

The incident was reported about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the 2600 block of Middle River Drive.

Police said the woman was walking in the area when she was approached by a man.

Authorities said the man tackled the victim and raped her on the front lawn of an apartment complex, next to a road.

The man then fled the area in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken by officers to the Nancy J. Cotterman Sexual Assault Treatment Center for a medical examination.

The rapist is described as a white man, about 40 to 45 years old, 5 feet, 11 inches tall and with a large build.

Police said he has a tattoo on the lower right leg, possibly of an oriental theme.

Anyone with information about his identity is asked to call Detective Yvette Martinez at 954-828-5784 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest.
