A 28-year-old man was killed Monday morning after he rear-ended a semitrailer in Pompano Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
James Vieira was driving a Nissan Rogue on West Atlantic Boulevard in the center lane when he ended up behind an International Eagle semitrailer, deputies said.
At about 4 a.m., he crashed into the back of the semitrailer. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and pronounced Vieira dead.
The truck driver, Bereket Kiflu, remained at the scene and didn’t report any injuries.
Detectives don’t believe reckless speed or mechanical malfunction contributed to the collision, deputies said. Toxicology analyses are pending.
