The Sunday morning advisory warned Tropical Storm Maria was expected to strengthen into a hurricane and approach the Leeward Islands early next week. The storm was also forecast to affect Puerto Rico.
The rain the storm will bring will be capable of causing life-threatening flash floods and mudslides. Residents in the Caribbean were still recovering from the damage of Hurricane Irma.
None of the three storms presented an immediate threat to South Florida. The hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
