Man dies after shooting in South Beach

A man died after a shooting in South Beach early Sunday morning, according to the Miami Beach Police Department.

According to Miami Beach Officer Ernesto Rodriguez detectives responded to Collins Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets to investigate the shooting about 12:44 a.m.

Doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center pronounced the man dead, according to Rodriguez.

Witnesses at the La Flora Hotel on Collins Avenue said they heard a single shot and later saw a man's body on the ground. During the investigation Roshawn Allen, who is visiting Miami Beach from Virginia, couldn't get back to his hotel.

"We flew in on Thursday night and we fly out Monday," Allen said after police officers told him he needed to wait to get through.

As of 9:30 a.m., the scene was clear and the area was back open to pedestrian and street traffic.

Detectives were asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
