Miami-Dade family’s home, business burglarized just weeks apart

Police are searching for burglars who broke into a South Florida family's home and their business just weeks apart.

Surveillance video shows the crooks breaking into the family's southwest Miami-Dade home on July 4, where they stole jewelry, guns and even the family's pet, an African grey parrot.

The family believes the same thieves broke into their business early Monday.

Surveillance video shows the crooks snooping around for a little while, apparently searching for something specific.

The victims said the burglars didn't manage to find what they were looking for, so they ran out of the building and took off in a dark-colored, four-door sedan.

The family believes the crooks knew who they were targeting.

"It's not what they took," Robert Lopez said. "(They) violated your safe space, your home. Your kids and your family think that it's their protected area, so you feel pretty much violated."

Police are still searching for the people involved in both burglaries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. The family is offering a $10,000 reward for any tips that lead to an arrest.
