Two swimmers who were snorkeling Friday around 4:20 p.m. were rescued from Haulover Inlet after a strong tide swept them into the rocky jetty, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said.
MDFR said an Ocean Rescue team dove into the water and swam against the current to reach the couple, who were exhausted from fighting the strong current that was sweeping them toward the bridge.
Officials said the couple was given rescue buoys for flotation and were pulled to safety.
The swimmers were not injured.
MDFR officials are reminding beachgoers that even in calm, clear conditions, strong tidal currents present danger when swimming in close proximity to a coastal inlet.
