Two men were fatally shot early Wednesday morning outside a nightclub near Fort Lauderdale, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were called shortly before 4:15 a.m. to a shooting at Club Bam at 2829 W. Broward Blvd.
When deputies arrived, they found a man dead.
The body was covered by a yellow tarp at the scene.
Relatives identified the man as Wendell Soliphar, 21.
His cousin told Local 10 News reporter Sanela Sabovic that Soliphar is from the Bahamas and had only lived in the U.S. for a year.
He said Soliphar was trying to make a better life for himself and his family, and leaves behind a daughter.
Relatives said Soliphar was at the nightclub to watch one of his cousins perform.
That cousin said he saw Soliphar get shot multiple times in the back as he was leaving the club.
Soliphar's aunt was inconsolable after hearing news of her nephew's death.
"I said, 'What?'" Rose Doreus said. "When I come in there, I see on the floor. They put him on the floor. I don't know, I don't know. I can't take it."
Soliphar's relatives do not believe that he was the intended target.
"They was going after someone else and he just got caught up in the mix. His life was short. He didn't get to experience anything," Junior Demelies said.
A BSO spokeswoman said homicide detectives later learned that two other men were shot at the club and were at a local hospital.
One of the men died at the hospital, authorities said.
Detectives are looking through surveillance video and speaking to witnesses in hopes of identifying the gunman.
A motive for the shooting is unknown.
Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
