Man charged with DUI in crash that injured Miami-Dade officers

A man police believe to be responsible for a crash that left two Miami-Dade Police Department officers injured in May crash turned himself into authorities Thursday.

Police said Jovary Hill, 30, was driving a Volkswagen Jetta in the wrong direction on May 28 near Southwest 163rd Street and Southwest 157th Avenue when he crashed head-on into a police cruiser.

The officers were identified as Carlos Babich, 33, and Michael Moreira, 31.

Police said one of the officers had to be extricated from the squad car. Both were taken to area hospitals with injuries -- one with serious dislocations to his lower extremities and some fractured bones, the other with possible broken bones.

Both officers are now OK.

Hill is charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury and DUI causing damage to property or person. He is being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correction Center.
