Miami Fire Rescue caps major gas leak after backhoe strikes gas line

Miami Fire Rescue crews responded Monday morning to reports of a major gas leak.

Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll Jr. said it appears that a backhoe struck a gas line in the area of 400 NE 28th St.

Carroll said the fire department's Hazardous Materials Team and the Technical Rescue Team responded to the scene.

No nearby buildings needed to be evacuated, Carroll said.

The gas line was repaired shortly before 9:45 a.m.
