Jerome Johnson said he hasn’t slept well in days.
He said he is stressed and frustrated after a fatal crash Thursday in Lauderhill, which police believe he was involved in.
A 57-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle during the crash, police said. Several other people were also injured.
Johnson didn’t stop after the crash and said he drove home.
In the hours after the fatal crash, police asked the public to be on the lookout for Johnson's vehicle, and described him as one of two reckless drivers who caused the wreck.
Johnson isn't facing any charges.
Johnson said he learned about the crash on the news later on and has been cooperating with police ever since.
"I was at my house the whole time and my car was not hiding. We have been cooperating with police since day one," Johnson said.
Gustavo Frances, Johnson’s attorney, said his client wasn’t involved in the crash and wasn’t aware that it happened.
"Mr. Johnson was not involved in the accident. Mr. Johnson did not know that anything had happened or anything was happening until he saw it on the news," he said.
Meanwhile, Johnson has a message to the families impacted by the crash.
"My condolences go out to the families. I feel very bad for them," he said.
