Marlins’ Volquez throws historic no-hitter versus Arizona

Edinson Volquez of the Miami Marlins pitched a no-hitter against the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0.

Before Saturday, there had been 295 no-hitters in Major League Baseball history, but none since April of 2016.

Keywords: Before Saturday.

Volquez tossed the sixth no-no in Marlins history on Saturday, leading the Fish to a 3-0 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Volquez actually got hurt in the first inning covering first base and nearly came out of the game. He stayed in and tossed the first gem for the Marlins since Henderson Alvarez in 2013.

The most recent Marlins' no-hitter was Sept. 29, 2013, by Henderson Alvarez against the Detroit Tigers. The last time the Diamondbacks were no-hit also came against the Marlins — by Anibal Sanchez on Sept. 6, 2006.

Jake Arrieta of the Chicago Cubs had MLB's most recent no-hitter, on April 21, 2016.
