Officer released from hospital after wrong-way crash; another in stable condition

A Miami-Dade officer was discharged from Jackson South Community Hospital after being involved in a wrong-way crash Sunday

while on duty. Meanwhile, another officer who was in the same vehicle remains in stable condition.

The crash took place on Sunday when Jovary Jill, 30, drove a gray Volkswagen Jetta north in the southbound lanes of Southwest 157th Avenue, while the officers were headed southbound on the same road, police said.

Two officers, ages 33 and 31, were in the cruiser at the time of the head-on collision.

Officer Carlos Babich, the driver of the police cruiser, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment, where he remained in stable condition.

Officer Michael Moreira was released after his stint in the hospital.

Investigators believe alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the crash.
