AKWESASNE, NEW YORK – On Saturday, May 20th, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council proudly presented American Legion Post #1479 with a canvass print commemorating the Akwesasne Mohawk Code Talkers Congressional Medal Ceremony held on May 28, 2016.
Last year’s event saw 17 Congressional Silver Medals and 7 Bronze Medals bestowed upon Akwesasne veterans who utilized Kanien’kéha (Mohawk language) in helping the U.S. to be victorious during World War II. Accepting on behalf of the American Legion was 2nd Vice-Commander Scott Jock.
The Tribe takes pride in honoring our veterans this weekend with the unveiling of the Akwesasne Veteran’s Memorial Monument at 2pm on Saturday, May 27th at Generations Park located at 545 State Route 37 in Akwesasne, New York.
