Child, man on ATV struck by car in Lauderhill, officials say

A man and child were taken to Broward General Hospital after they were struck by a car while riding an all-terrain vehicle Sunday, Lauderhill Fire Rescue said.

Officials said the two were riding the ATV near 800 NW 38th Ave. in Lauderhill when they were struck by a white Kia and thrown from the vehicle.

"The person who was riding the four-wheeler -- I saw him at the park. He was trying to do a wheelie," a witness said. "They were coming from this way. She was turning into her yard and they just kind of collided. The dude and the baby flipped over the car."

The woman driving the Kia told police the ATV came out of nowhere before slamming into her vehicle.

Police said the woman will not face any charges in the crash.

The man and child both suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. Neither were wearing a helmet.

Police said the driver of the ATV will likely face charges because it is illegal to operate an ATV on a public street.
