Police search for suspect who put hidden cameras in Keys’ women’s bathrooms

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man suspected of placing hidden cameras in women's bathrooms in the Florida Keys.

Charles Schmidt, 36, is believed to have placed coat hooks with cameras inside the public bathroom stalls at Anne's Beach in Islamorada, the Circle K store at mile marker 99 and public restrooms at Harry Harris Park.

The cameras were discovered last May.

Detectives found videos showing women and girls in various states of undress. In one of the videos labeled "test," the arm of a man is seen with a tattoo.

When looking at surveillance video from the Circle K, detectives saw a man with a similar tattoo. In the video, the man, later identified as Schmidt, is seen walking past the men's bathroom and going into the women's restroom.

The coat hook camera videos show numerous women and underage girls.

Schmidt, who is wanted on a total of 16 counts of video voyeurism, is believed to have fled the area with his girlfriend, Shelly Arnold.

The Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with information on Schmidt's whereabouts to call the department at 305-289-2361, or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-346-8477.
