Miramar police officer hospitalized after being struck by motorcyclist

Authorities are searching for a motorcyclist who struck a Miramar police officer late Friday night.

A Miramar police spokesperson said the officer was advised by a driver that a motorcyclist was driving recklessly west on Miramar Parkway and Red Road.

The officer found a motorcycle matching the description with no tag near Flamingo Road and Miramar Parkway. The driver was off the bike at the time. Authorities said as the officer exited his patrol car, the driver got back on the bike and accelerated directly at the officer. The officer was pinned between the motorcycle and his door.

Authorities said the motorcyclist left the bike at the crash scene and took off into the ranches.

Broward and Miami-Dade agencies helped establish a large scale perimeter to search for the suspect.

The suspect was not found. The officer was transported to Memorial West Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but has since been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
