Security guard struck, killed by tractor-trailer in Pembroke Park

A man working as a security guard was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer at a warehouse at 3375 S.W. 24th St. Saturday morning, deputies said.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said Vincent Minott, 37, pulled his truck out of a loading bay thinking it had already been loaded, but quickly realized the trailer was empty. He notified security guard Harold Barrington Dayes, 63, that he was going to pull back into the bay.

Deputies said Minott began backing up and did not see Dayes, who was in his direct path and appeared to be writing something down.

A witness told the Sheriff's Office that he yelled for Dayes to move but that Dayes did not respond. Dayes was then struck by the truck, deputies said.

The witness said he was only able to get the driver's attention after he'd already struck Dayes.

Deputies said when officials attempted to administer first aid to Dayes, he was wearing an in-ear Bluetooth headset.
Dayes was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
