Lauderhill Fire Rescue was called to an elementary school Thursday morning after receiving reports of several children who said they were not feeling well.
Authorities said seven children became ill at Lauderhill Paul Turner Elementary School at 1500 NW 49th Ave. in Lauderdale Lakes.
Lauderhill Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Jeff Levy said students were outside at the time for some kind of drill and suffered a "heat-related illness."
"It was early in the morning. Some children might not have eaten breakfast. So they walked a distance in the heat (and) they might have been feeling nauseous and vomiting, weakness, sweating -- just not feeling comfortable, and they started reporting to their teachers and the school administration that they weren't feeling well," Levy said.
Two children were taken to a hospital in stable condition. The other five students were released to their parents.
Levy said he was told by school administrators that students were offered water while they were outside.
