Man falls overboard on Carnival cruise ship near Cuba

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a man who fell overboard on a cruise ship near Cuba.

A Coast Guard news release said Brandon Paul, 23, of Floral City, fell overboard from the eighth deck of the Carnival Victory cruise ship about 3 a.m. The ship was about 33 miles northwest of Pinar del Rio, Cuba.

Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen said the ship immediately turned around, and the crew began a search-and-rescue operation.

A Coast Guard cutter and airplane from Miami were dispatched to search for Paul.

The ship left from Miami and was traveling to Cozumel, Mexico on a four-day cruise.
